When garlic gets "post-dated" it can be placed in a bit of water and grown for the greens, which are called garlic scapes. Here is just one clove of garlic sprouting a scape. I use them in place of chives or onion tops.
The jade plant (Crassula Ovata) is used for bonsai, although most people I know that grow them put them in the front yard. Mine are all in little glasses of water, where they thrive (or malinger) for years, depending on how much care they get. They need very little, actually. Many sources on the internet say that this plant is also called money tree, but I no one I know every calls it that, and apparently there are other and different plants with the same nickname.
