I grew up hearing stories about the old-timers who drove the original Route 66 to California before the road was paved. I guess some of it is still unpaved. But it sure is a nice shortcut from Las Vegas down to the Palm Springs Area. Here is a photo I took on my last trip:
It rained really hard that night and the next day was overcast:
