Ok, you know I don't have any dirt and do all my gardening indoors or in porch containers filled with liquid nutrients. But, shhhhh, we have a little country place where I like to go out and stomp around.
One time when we were out there I was chatting with the neighbor, who sometimes rides by on her horse. We were having such a nice chat I didn't notice that I was standing on an ant hill. All of a sudden, I felt something sting, and looked down to see an army of tiny little ants spiraling around my ankle like a living bracelet.
Dunno why they waited until they had me surrounded until they started biting, but even if the formic acid in the ant bites is therapeutic, one such vaccination is quite enough for a lifetime. A bite from just one of our infamous Mohave "green" rattlesnakes would be much worse, though, so I have been warned: next time I will wear boots:
work boots
I was looking at the red Wolverine durashocks on the Woverine manufacturer's site, but discovered that Work Boots USA ships free and has a better price.

I personally buy Magnum boots. They are what the US SWAT team uses and I got 5 years out of my last pair.
I personally garden indoors in bare feet, but strictly for convenience.

Hi, Red. I never wear shoes indoors, but out on the porch I garden in my Columbia River sandals. They are just so comfy, and suitable, as there are no critters on the porch.
Magnum boots are certainly durable and I believe that Work Boots USA will soon be offering them, but so far I have only seen the Magnums in black. The XPRTs (Coyote) are super nice, too, in a great color. So many boots, so little time!
