Due to our travel schedule, we had to eat all of our summer basil up and start new plants when we got back to Arizona. So here it is, 2 1/2 weeks old, almost big enough to start taking cuttings:
The AeroGarden gets it off to a good start, but as soon as I get a few strong cuttings started we will simply propagate it in glasses of water sitting under the lamps right on the grow surface of the AeroGarden. That will free up a grow hole for something else, and many plants can share the light.
Soon it will be time to start our chicory, aka Italian Dandelion or Cichorium intybus. I never knew there were so many kinds of dandelions. Here is an amazing list published by Cornell University:
For more about hyrdroponic gardening please visit Ann's Air Gardens where I have posted a new photo of the salad burnet.
UPDATE: It took 4 days for my basil cutting to root and in that time the parent plant regained its original growth, with a few extra leaves to garnish the Chicken Florentine we are having for lunch.
Now that I've figured out how to use the "Page" function of TypePad, I will start a page on Basil.
