Here is a pea from the AeroGarden seed kit, a few weeks old and still in the AG. We keep our home too warm for growing peas inside, so as soon as it looked nice and healthy, we put it out on the porch in a soap jug (that was the day after Christmas):
That spigot came from a barrel of popcorn that we found on sale. The barrel was too big for a planter, so I made changes.
In this photo you cannot see the spigot I retrofitted, but you can see the leaves and the date it was set out, December 26:
Surprise! Instead of rooting, the cutting I put in a glass of water on January 9, out on the window sill to see what would happen blossomed. There was not sign of a bud when I took the stem cutting.
When the flower shriveled up the next day, knowing nothing about pea plants except that they have cute tendrils and that in general, new cuttings are not the best place to expect flowers to bear fruit, I paid it little mind, but on January 18, I noticed what I thought was a wilted leaf at the top of the stem I was trying to root. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a beautiful pea pod:
No roots yet, but I didn't use any root tone for this experiment.
